Pokémon TCG Shatters World Record with Epic 24-Hour Card Opening Marathon

The Pokémon Company International has achieved a new Guinness World Record, setting a new benchmark for the longest Pokémon TCG unboxing livestream. This impressive feat involved opening over 20,000 cards in a continuous 24-hour marathon.

A Record-Breaking Livestream Event

On November 26th, 2024, popular online personalities, including Serebii's Joe Merrick, PokeGirl Ranch, and Mayplaystv, teamed up for a record-breaking livestream on Pokémon's official Twitch channel. Their mission: to open 1,500 booster packs and various other Pokémon products, culminating in an estimated total of over 20,000 cards, as confirmed by the official Pokémon press release.

Peter Murphy, Senior Director of Marketing at The Pokémon Company International, expressed immense pride in the accomplishment, stating, “It’s been an incredible 24 hours of pack opening, and we’re thrilled to have achieved such an ambitious GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title alongside an amazing team of content creators.”

The event wasn't just about breaking records; the collected cards will be organized and donated to charities, including Barnardo’s in the UK, before the holidays. Further giveaways are planned on the participating content creators' channels within the next two weeks.

Celebrating Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks

This record-breaking event coincided with the launch of the Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks expansion, released on November 8th, 2024. This expansion transports players to the Terarium, the central location in the Indigo Disk DLC (Part 2) of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

The expansion introduces powerful Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, such as Archaludon ex with its formidable Metal Defender ability. Iconic Dragon-type Pokémon like Palkia, Dialga, Eternatus, Alolan Exeggutor ex, and Tatsugiri ex also feature prominently. Collectors can also find illustration rare and special illustration rare cards, showcasing serene ocean scenes with Alolan Dugtrio and Feebas. New Tera Pokémon ex, including Pallossand ex and Flygon ex, add exciting new options for TCG players.

The Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks expansion is also available digitally via the Pokémon TCG Live app, offering in-game rewards for collecting and battling with the new Stellar Tera Pokémon ex.
