By JacobJan 23,2025

A new PlayStation 5 beta update is rolling out, bringing several quality-of-life improvements. This follows the recent update introducing URL linking for game sessions. Let's delve into the details.

PS5 New Beta Update Brings Several QoL Improvements

Enhanced Audio and Remote Play Capabilities:

Sony's latest beta update, announced by Hiromi Wakai, VP of Product Management, introduces personalized 3D audio profiles. This allows users to tailor their audio experience to their specific hearing characteristics using compatible headsets like the Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. The update also refines Remote Play settings, offering more granular control over who can access your PS5 remotely. This is particularly helpful for households with multiple users. Access is managed through the console's settings menu: Settings > System > Remote Play > Enable Remote Play.

Adaptive Charging for Slim PS5 Models:

For owners of the slim PS5 model, adaptive charging for controllers is included. This feature intelligently manages power consumption while the console is in rest mode, optimizing charging based on the controller's battery level. Enable this via: Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode > Supply Power to USB Ports > Adaptive.

The beta is currently limited to invited participants in select regions (U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France). A global release is planned for the coming months. Invited users will receive an email with instructions. Remember, features in the beta may change or be omitted from the final release.

Building on Previous Enhancements:

This beta builds upon the recent Version 24.05-09.60.00 update, which introduced URL sharing for game sessions. This allows players to easily invite others to open sessions using a QR code.
