God of War TV Series: A Creative Reset

The Show is Not Cancelled

God of War TV Series' Creative Team Undergoes OverhaulRecent reports confirm that showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have exited the God of War adaptation. Despite reportedly completing multiple scripts, Sony and Amazon have opted for a different creative vision.

Key figures remaining on board include executive producer Cory Barlog (Santa Monica Studio's Creative Director), along with Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan (PlayStation Productions), Roy Lee (Vertigo), and Yumi Yang (Santa Monica Studio). Amazon and Sony are actively seeking a new showrunner, producers, and writers to reshape the series' direction. Crucially, the project remains uncancelled.

Despite Setbacks, the Future Remains Bright

God of War TV Series' Creative Team Undergoes OverhaulInitially announced on a PlayStation podcast in 2022, following the success of the 2018 God of War reboot, the Amazon and Sony collaboration reflects Sony's broader strategy of adapting its popular video game franchises. This initiative, launched with the creation of PlayStation Productions in 2019, has already yielded several successful projects.

These include the 2022 Uncharted film, the critically acclaimed 2023 The Last of Us series (with a second season slated for 2025), the 2023 Gran Turismo movie, and this year's Twisted Metal series. Furthermore, several other adaptations are in development, including Gravity Rush, Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, and the upcoming Until Dawn film (set for release on April 25, 2025). The commitment to the God of War series underscores Sony's continued investment in this strategy.
