Riot Games still wants its MMO, but it is not even close to the finish

Riot Games made a notable appearance at this year's DICE Summit, and following the main event, co-founder Marc Merrill sat down with Stephen Totilo to share his vision for the future. One of Merrill's most ambitious projects is the development of a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game set within the expansive universe of League of Legends and Arcane. This endeavor is not just a passion project for Merrill; it's also a significant focus of his time and energy, driven by his deep love for the MMO genre.

Merrill's enthusiasm for the project stems from his belief that it can succeed due to his personal commitment and the eager anticipation of League of Legends fans who crave a deeper immersion into their beloved universe. Despite his excitement, Merrill kept the details under wraps, including any potential release dates. In a light-hearted moment, he quipped that he hopes the MMO will be released before humans set foot on Mars, though he offered no concrete timeline.

In addition to the MMO, Riot Games is also developing another game set in the League of Legends universe—2XKO, a much-anticipated fighting game. Unlike the MMO, 2XKO has already been showcased through trailers and has a confirmed release window, expected to launch before the end of the year. This news has been eagerly received by fans who have been waiting for years to get their hands on this new title.
