Robert Eggers Set to Helm Labyrinth Sequel

By JacobMar 31,2025

Robert Eggers, acclaimed for his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the cherished classic, Labyrinth. According to Variety, Eggers will not only direct but also co-write the screenplay with his collaborator from The Northman, Sjón. This new project follows a previous attempt at a sequel that had Scott Derrickson, known for Sinister, attached but stalled without updates since 2023. TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have now entrusted Eggers to bring a fresh vision to the sequel of Jim Henson's 1986 dark fantasy, which originally starred David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly.

In the original Labyrinth, David Bowie portrayed the Goblin King Jareth, who abducts Jennifer Connelly's baby brother. Connelly's character embarks on a quest through a fantastical realm, aided by a colorful cast of Henson's puppets, to rescue her sibling.

Beyond the Labyrinth sequel, Eggers is also gearing up for a werewolf film titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English, promising a unique historical twist to the werewolf genre.

Eggers' recent work, Nosferatu, a remake of the 1922 silent film by F.W. Murnau, hit theaters last Christmas. The film, set in 19th century Germany, follows a young real estate agent's harrowing journey to Transylvania to sell a castle to a mysterious count, leading to terrifying vampiric experiences for him and his wife, Ellen. Nosferatu has garnered significant acclaim, earning four Oscar nominations for Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling.
