Hollow Knight: Silksong Is Real and Still in Development
Team Cherry's Marketing and PR Manager, Matthew Griffin, has confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong is indeed real and actively progressing. This confirmation follows recent speculation sparked by a cake-related profile picture change by co-creator William Pellen. While that proved to be unrelated to a Silksong announcement or ARG, as clarified by Griffin and YouTuber fireb0rn, the confirmation of the game's continued development is welcome news for fans.
Griffin's Confirmation
Griffin took to X (formerly Twitter) to directly address fan concerns, reassuring them that, "Yes the game is real, progressing and will release." This marks the first official update on the game's status in over a year and a half, offering a much-needed dose of reassurance to the dedicated fanbase.
A Six-Year Journey
Initially revealed in February 2019 with a projected release in the first half of 2023, Silksong was delayed in May 2023 due to its increased scope and the developers' desire for further refinement. The delay, now nearing two years, has understandably led to some impatience among fans. Team Cherry previously highlighted the game's ambitious features: a brand new kingdom, nearly 150 new enemies, and a challenging new difficulty mode called Silk Soul mode.
Mixed Reactions and Anticipation
Griffin's confirmation has been met with a range of responses. While some fans express gratitude and encouragement, urging the team to avoid undue pressure, others remain somewhat unsatisfied, hoping for more substantial updates and a clearer release window.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. The game will follow Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, on a perilous journey through a new land. While a release date remains unannounced, fans eagerly await further news and updates.
