Sony Says You Won't Have to Link a PSN Account to Play Some of Its PC Games Anymore

By AaronMar 21,2025

Sony is dropping the PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement for several PC games, starting with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launching tomorrow. This means players can enjoy titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, God of War Ragnarök, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered without linking a PSN account. The impact on other single-player PC ports remains unclear.

However, Sony isn't abandoning its online ecosystem entirely. Connecting a PSN account will still offer benefits, including early unlocks—like the Spider-Man 2099 and Miles Morales 2099 suits in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2—and one-time resource bundles for games such as God of War Ragnarök (including Kratos' Armor of the Black Bear and a resource bundle). The Last of Us Part II Remastered offers bonus points and Ellie's Jordan's Jacket skin, while Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered provides the Nora Valiant outfit. Sony promises more benefits to come.

This move follows criticism of the PSN requirement, particularly from players in regions where PSN isn't readily available. The previous requirement for games like God of War and The Last of Us on PC drew considerable backlash. A similar incident occurred with Helldivers 2 last May, where a PSN requirement was quickly reversed after player outcry. While many welcome Sony's PC expansion, the PSN linking requirement proved controversial. Now, with the option to play without linking an account, Sony aims to balance accessibility with the advantages of its online platform.
