Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up to bring the acclaimed video game Helldivers 2 to the big screen. The exciting announcement was made at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash, who stated, "We're thrilled to announce that we've commenced development on a film adaptation of our immensely popular game, Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space combat sequences on the silver screen.
Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a captivating shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Starship Troopers. The game achieved phenomenal success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original game.
Adding to the excitement, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures – the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie. Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse into the project: "We're in the early stages of production for the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic treatment."
