Square Enix has put to rest any lingering doubts about the development of Kingdom Hearts 4 with a crystal-clear message on social media, accompanied by enticing visuals. This reaffirmation comes hot on the heels of the announcement that the GPS-based action-RPG for mobile, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, has been canceled. The second post conveyed the team's gratitude for the fans' excitement and anticipation. "We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts," it read. "We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."
This update marks the first significant news about Kingdom Hearts 4 in months, following a tiny, cryptic tease back in January. Despite the game being unveiled in September 2022 with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had remained relatively silent on its progress until now.
Series director Tetsuya Nomura has previously hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will serve as a pivotal point in the series, aiming to shift the Kingdom Hearts narrative towards its conclusion after 22 years and 18 games.
Regarding the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix expressed their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The project was canceled because it was "determined that it would be difficult to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
