Stellar Blade Dev Shift Up Posts Record Year, Sales of PC Version Still Expected to Outsell PS5

By HenryFeb 25,2025

Shift Up, the developer behind Stellar Blade, has announced a record-breaking year, with Stellar Blade generating $43 million in royalties. The PC version is projected to surpass the PlayStation 5 sales, particularly within the Asian gaming market.

Game World Observer reported Shift Up's 2024 financial report, showcasing a 30.4% year-over-year revenue increase, reaching $151.4 million. A significant portion, $43.2 million, stemmed directly from Stellar Blade royalties.

The studio's success shows no signs of abating. Shift Up anticipates even stronger PC sales than the console version, emphasizing the Asian market's potential. Furthermore, they plan to unveil their new title, Project Witches, in the first half of 2025. However, this upcoming game isn't the highly anticipated Stellar Blade sequel, despite the company acknowledging the possibility of future installments in the franchise.

Project Witches was initially announced in 2024, shortly after Stellar Blade's PS5 launch, preempting significant demand for a direct sequel. Nevertheless, Shift Up remains open to developing another game within the Stellar Blade universe.

In Stellar Blade, players embody Eve, fighting against mysterious invaders to reclaim Earth in a fast-paced action RPG. The game received a 7/10 rating from IGN and achieved impressive sales, quickly reaching one million copies sold. While praised for its core action gameplay, IGN's review noted that underdeveloped characters, a weak narrative, and frustrating RPG mechanics hindered its potential to reach the genre's pinnacle.
