"Upgrading Weapons and Armor in Avowed: A Guide"

By NovaApr 05,2025

As you delve deeper into the world of *Avowed*, you'll face increasingly formidable foes. To keep up with these higher-level enemies, upgrading your weapons and armor is crucial. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to enhance your gear in *Avowed*.

Where to Upgrade Weapons and Armor in Avowed

In *Avowed*, the key to upgrading your weapons and armor lies at the Workbench, as shown in the image above. Each upgrade requires specific materials, which vary based on the type of weapon or armor and its Quality. While most materials are readily available in the game world or can be crafted, upgrading from one Quality to another demands progressively rarer forms of Adra.

Workbenches are conveniently located at Party Camps, which you can establish at any Adra Waystone you encounter. Simply interact with an Adra Waystone and choose to set up a Party Camp. These locations will then appear on your map with a tent icon, allowing you to fast travel to them for easy access to your upgrades.

How Weapon and Armor Leveling Works in Avowed

In *Avowed*, the power level of your weapons and armor is determined by two main factors: Quality and additional upgrades. Quality is represented by a numerical value, a color rarity, and an adjective. This corresponds to the levels of enemies you'll encounter in the Living Lands. Gear with a lower color rarity and numerical value will struggle against higher-level enemies.

When your gear's Quality is below that of your enemies, you'll find your weapons dealing less damage and your armor offering less protection. However, gear provides bonuses when used against enemies of the same or lower level. To maintain effectiveness in combat, it's essential to upgrade your gear in line with the increasing levels of your foes. Here are the different weapon qualities in *Avowed*:

  • Common Quality – Green, Level I
  • Fine Quality – Blue, Level II
  • Exceptional – Purple, Level III
  • Superb – Red, Level IV
  • Legendary – Gold, Level V

Within each Quality, you can further enhance your weapons and armor through three additional upgrade tiers, marked as +0 through +3. These upgrades incrementally boost your gear's stats, though not as significantly as increasing the Quality. Importantly, you must complete all three additional upgrades before you can elevate the Quality of your weapon.

Avowed Weapon and Armor Additional Upgrades Explained

Each Quality level of your gear offers three additional upgrade tiers. These upgrades, while less impactful than a Quality increase, still enhance your weapons and armor's stats. Remember, you need to max out these additional upgrades before you can advance to the next Quality level.

Which Weapons and Armor Should You Upgrade in Avowed?

In *Avowed*, weapons and armor are categorized into standard and Unique types. Standard gear is plentiful, found as loot or available from Merchants. Unique gear, on the other hand, consists of named, special items often obtained through Main or Side Quests, or as drops from bosses or bounties. Some Merchants may also offer a limited selection of Unique gear for sale.

Unique weapons and armor can be upgraded to Legendary Quality, surpassing the Superb limit of standard items. They also come with additional bonuses and perks, making them far superior to standard gear. Therefore, it's advisable to focus your resources on upgrading Unique gear. Standard gear should be treated as disposable, used until you acquire and upgrade Unique items. You can sell standard gear to Merchants for Skeyt or break it down for resources to further enhance your Unique weapons and armor.
