BioWare delivers good and bad news for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The game will launch without Denuvo DRM, but PC players will miss out on preloading.
Veilguard: DRM-Free, But No Preload for PC
BioWare's Michael Gamble announced on Twitter (X) that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will not utilize Denuvo anti-piracy software on PC. This decision, driven by trust in their player base, has been met with positive reactions, as Denuvo is often associated with performance issues. The absence of Denuvo means no performance-impacting DRM. One user commented, "I support this. I will buy your game upon launch. Thank you."
Gamble also confirmed that Veilguard will not require always-online functionality. However, this DRM-free approach means no preload option for PC players. This is a drawback considering the game's substantial 100GB storage requirement. Console players, however, can preload. Xbox early access players can install now; PlayStation early access players can begin on October 29th.
BioWare also released the system requirements. High-end PCs can leverage ray tracing and uncapped frame rates. Minimum specs prioritize accessibility. Consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S) will offer fidelity and performance modes (30 and 60 FPS respectively). To fully utilize ray tracing on PC, players will need at least an Intel Core i9 9900K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X CPU, 16GB RAM, and an Nvidia RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon 6800XT GPU.
