Supermassive Games, renowned for horror titles like Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures series, has reportedly halted production on an unannounced Blade Runner project.
According to Insider Gaming, the studio was developing Blade Runner: Time To Live—a narrative-driven action-adventure set in 2065 featuring the last Blade Runner. The game would have centered on Nexus-6 replicant So-Lange, tasked with eliminating an underground replicant leader before being betrayed and stranded in hostile territory. Gameplay reportedly blended stealth, combat, exploration, detective work, and intense character moments.
Insider Gaming revealed the project had a $45 million budget, with $9 million allocated for motion capture and acting talent. Planned as a 10-12 hour single-player experience, development reportedly began in September 2024 targeting a late 2027 release across PC and consoles.
The cancellation allegedly stemmed from rights disputes with Alcon Entertainment, Blade Runner's IP holder, leading to the project's termination in late 2023.
Separately, Annapurna Interactive announced Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth in 2023—the franchise's first game in 25 years—though updates have been scarce since the initial reveal.
Supermassive continues developing multiple titles including Dark Pictures: Directive 8020 and Little Nightmares 3, following staff reductions affecting approximately 90 employees last year during company restructuring.
The studio's Until Dawn film adaptation premieres this weekend, with reviews already available for David F. Sanberg's cinematic interpretation.
