Genki at CES 2025: A Closer Look at the Nintendo Switch 2 Mockup

Genki, renowned for its handheld gaming accessories, offered a sneak peek at the Nintendo Switch 2 at CES 2025. Their 3D-printed mockup, based on a reportedly black-market acquired unit, revealed key design features fueling ongoing speculation. The model showcased a larger form factor, approaching the size of the Valve Steam Deck, and highlighted several significant changes.

Key features observed included seemingly magnetic Joy-Con controllers, a second USB-C port, and an intriguing new button labeled "C." Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, explaining that a button on each controller releases a pin, disengaging the magnetic connection. Despite the shift from sliding rails to magnets, Tsai assures users the Joy-Con remain securely attached during gameplay.

More Switch 2 Details from Genki

Further details emerged from Genki's presentation. Each Joy-Con incorporates an optical sensor within its mounting channel, suggesting potential functionality as a mouse via a yet-to-be-released accessory. This aligns with recently leaked Switch 2 images showing what appear to be optical sensors on the Joy-Con.

Interestingly, while larger than its predecessor, the Switch 2's slim profile still allows it to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, structural differences prevent compatibility. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remain a mystery, even to Genki.
