Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The publisher cited technical difficulties related to multilingual European localization as the reason for the cancellation.
A String of Delays Leads to Cancellation
The planned physical release faced multiple delays. Initially slated for March 2023, it was pushed back to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025. These repeated postponements ultimately resulted in the cancellation, leaving pre-order customers disappointed and receiving cancellation notices. While Meridiem Games offered limited information regarding the specific localization issues, the impact on fans is undeniable.
The cancellation is particularly frustrating for European players as it prevents the official release of the game in Spanish and other European languages. While digital versions remain accessible, those seeking a physical copy will be forced to import from regions like the US.
Omori, an RPG centered around Sunny, a young boy coping with trauma, blends real-world and dream-world narratives. Released on PC in December 2020, it expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to an unrelated issue involving merchandise from the game's developer, OMOCAT. The cancellation of the European physical release adds another layer of complexity to the game's availability.
