After the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement, it appears Nintendo and Xbox's partnership will remain strong. Phil Spencer, Microsoft's gaming chief, recently reaffirmed Xbox's commitment to the Switch platform as a gateway to audiences beyond its own ecosystems.
Speaking with Variety, Spencer was questioned about potential projects for the Switch successor. The Xbox leader confirmed plans to support the new console just as they did with the original Switch.
"Nintendo has been an excellent partner. Their platform helps us connect with gamers who don't play on PC or Xbox," Spencer explained. "This expands our community of fans invested in our franchises, which is crucial for sustaining our development investments."
"I deeply value Nintendo's industry role and our ongoing collaboration," Spencer continued. "Their support for our franchises will be key to our future success."
Spencer has consistently praised Nintendo's innovation since the Switch 2 teaser, having previously confirmed Xbox's multi-platform strategy encompassing PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo consoles.
When asked if the Switch 2 reveal prompted new announcements about Xbox's console roadmap, Spencer remained focused on community-building rather than reactionary moves.
"Not at all. Our priority should be serving our existing communities," Spencer noted. "While I admire industry innovations, I'm confident in our current strategy."
The executive reiterated Xbox's commitment to broad distribution across cloud, PC, and consoles. Following successful Nintendo ports like Pentiment and Grounded, industry watchers await news of Xbox titles coming to Switch 2 post-launch.
The Nintendo Switch 2 officially launches June 5, 2025. While pre-orders aren't yet available, our dedicated Switch 2 pre-order page will provide timely updates.
