Pokémon TCG Pocket Dev Gifts Players Trade Tokens But Still Doesn't Have Answers to Fix Controversial Feature

By PenelopeMar 25,2025

Creatures Inc., the developer behind the popular Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, has recently taken steps to address the community's concerns about the game's trading mechanics. Players logging into the game today will discover 1,000 Trade Tokens in their Gift menu, which is sufficient for two significant trades. This move comes as Creatures Inc. continues to explore ways to improve the controversial trading system that has sparked heated discussions among fans.

The trading feature, introduced just over a week ago, faced immediate backlash for its restrictive nature and perceived greediness. Players have been vocal about the mechanics that limit their ability to open packs, engage in Wonder Picking, and now, trade without spending real money. The introduction of Trade Tokens added another layer of restriction, requiring players to sacrifice five cards from their collection to trade just one card of the same rarity, a move that many described as "hilariously toxic," "predatory," and "downright greedy."

Despite Creatures Inc. hinting at improvements nearly three weeks before the feature's release and inviting feedback, the actual implementation fell short of player expectations. The developer acknowledged that some restrictions were hindering the casual enjoyment of trading and promised to introduce required items as rewards in upcoming events. However, the recent Cresselia ex Drop Event on February 3 did not include any such rewards, further frustrating the community.

Critics argue that the trading system is designed primarily to boost revenue for Pokémon TCG Pocket, which reportedly earned $200 million in its first month without trading. The restriction on trading cards of 2 Star rarity or higher is seen as a tactic to encourage players to spend more money on packs for a chance to obtain these cards. One player reportedly spent around $1,500 just to complete the first set, highlighting the financial burden placed on enthusiasts. With the third set arriving last week, the community's patience is being tested as they await meaningful changes to the trading system.
