Though Marvel Rivals is still in its early stages, players are already envisioning major expansions. Recent speculation about a potential PvE boss battle has fueled rumors that a PvE mode might be coming soon. However, NetEase recently clarified that there are currently no plans for such a mode...at least not yet.
During this week's DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we spoke with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu and inquired about the possibility of a PvE mode. Here's what he shared:
"At the moment, we don't have any PvE plans in place, but our development team is always testing new gameplay modes. If we discover a new mode that's engaging and enjoyable enough, we would certainly introduce it to our players."
After his response, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo jumped in to ask if I personally wanted a PvE mode in Marvel Rivals, to which I confirmed. Wu added:
"Yes, we recognize that some of our community members would appreciate a PvE mode. However, introducing a hardcore PvE experience would create a completely different dynamic from our current gameplay. Our team is actively exploring various approaches to achieve this—perhaps a more casual version—to determine what fits our game best."
For now, it seems there are no firm plans for PvE content, but Wu hints that NetEase is experimenting with ideas for a more "lightweight" mode, possibly as a limited-time event or similar feature. At this stage, NetEase is keeping further details under wraps.
Marvel Rivals continues to receive updates approximately every six weeks, introducing new characters. The Human Torch and The Thing are scheduled to join the roster on February 21. We also discussed with Wu and Koo the potential for a Nintendo Switch 2 release, which you can read about here, and questioned whether they've been planting fake hero "leaks" in the code to mislead dataminers.
