Scalebound: Revival Hopes Rise?

Scalebound, once a highly anticipated Xbox One exclusive, embodied ambitious action-RPG design. Its blend of dynamic combat, evocative music, and the innovative dragon companion system captivated gamers. However, despite its 2014 announcement, development ceased in 2017, leaving fans disappointed.

Recently, a video surfaced on Clovers Inc.'s X account, showing Hideki Kamiya and his team revisiting archived Scalebound gameplay. Kamiya fondly reminisced about the game's development, expressing continued pride in the project despite its cancellation. He then retweeted the video with the impactful message: "Come on, Phil, let's do this!", directly addressing Microsoft's Phil Spencer.

This isn't a new sentiment; Kamiya voiced his desire to revive Scalebound as early as 2022, suggesting a renewed conversation with Microsoft. While speculation about a Scalebound return frequently resurfaces, rumors intensified in early 2023. Although several sources hinted at a potential reboot, Microsoft remained officially silent.

Phil Spencer himself was questioned about Scalebound in an interview with Game Watch, responding with a smile and a simple, "I have nothing to add at this time."

Even with renewed interest from Microsoft, a swift Scalebound revival is unlikely. Hideki Kamiya and Clovers Inc. are currently focused on a new Okami installment. Any Scalebound development would only commence after the completion of their current project. Despite the years of silence, the recent renewed attention offers a glimmer of hope that players may one day experience the game's long-awaited release.
