Mountaintop Studios, the developers behind the newly released FPS, Spectre Divide, have swiftly addressed player concerns regarding high in-game cosmetic prices. Just hours after launch, the studio announced significant price reductions and refunds.
Price Cuts and Refunds
Following considerable player backlash over the initial cost of skins and bundles, Spectre Divide implemented a 17-25% price reduction across weapons and outfits, a decision confirmed by game director Lee Horn. The studio issued a statement acknowledging player feedback and committing to these permanent price adjustments. Players who purchased items before the price change will receive a 30% SP (in-game currency) refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP.
Importantly, the price adjustments exclude Starter packs, Sponsorships, and Endorsement upgrades. However, players who purchased the Founder's or Supporter packs and subsequently bought these excluded items will receive the additional SP refund credited to their accounts.
Mixed Reactions and Steam Reviews
While some players welcomed the price reduction and refund initiative, the response remains divided, mirroring the game's current "Mixed" rating on Steam (49% Negative at the time of writing). Negative reviews highlight the initial pricing as a major concern. Social media comments reflect this duality: some praising the developer's responsiveness, while others express skepticism about the timing and suggest further improvements, such as the ability to purchase individual items from bundles. Concerns about the game's long-term viability in a competitive free-to-play market were also raised. The swift action taken by Mountaintop Studios demonstrates a willingness to address player feedback, but whether this will be enough to significantly improve the game's reception remains to be seen.
