Following his experience with Elden Ring: Nightreign's network test, Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won expressed a renewed sense of creativity and openness to new project ideas. At the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Choi shared his thoughts with Eurogamer on the evolution of the Souls genre. As a known admirer of FromSoftware's work, his admiration is reflected in the design of Lies of P.

Choi remarked on Elden Ring: Nightreign, saying, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. It's evident that FromSoftware consistently pushes the boundaries of imagination and vision, which inspired me to enhance the Overture experience to its fullest potential." This experience has led him to consider new directions for future projects, including the possibility of developing multiplayer games. Choi stated, "In terms of our future endeavors, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."

Despite his appreciation for FromSoftware titles, Choi emphasized that his inspiration stems from a wide array of games. In an interview with Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC, he explained, "I'm inspired by many different types of games. I take a variety of experiences and inspirations from these games and weave them into the Lies of P experience. It's a fusion of diverse influences that I transform into something unique for the fans of Lies of P."

Overture Takes 15-20 Hours for Experienced Players

Choi disclosed that the Overture DLC is expected to take experienced players 15-20 hours to complete. This expansion is packed with bosses and content that the developers had initially planned for the game’s launch but were unable to include due to development constraints. Choi elaborated, "Overture is intricately connected to the base game, making its development a challenging yet fulfilling task to round out the Lies of P experience."

Set as a prequel, Overture takes players back to Krat during its final days, following a legendary Stalker. This expansion incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and unused concepts from the original game's development. Choi likened Overture to a Director’s Cut, serving as the final piece of the Lies of P puzzle.

He noted, "Upon releasing the base game, we had to prioritize quality, which meant we couldn't include everything initially. The overwhelming support from the community post-launch motivated us to deliver all we envisioned in this expansion."

Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game

During an interview with IGN at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Choi clarified that Overture is not directly linked to the final cutscene of the base game. While the end of the original game hints at potential future directions for the Lies of P universe, Overture stands on its own.

Choi had previously announced in a Director’s Letter video in November 2023 that a sequel to Lies of P is in the works, which might be related to the final cutscene. However, details about Lies of P 2 remain scarce. Choi reassured fans, saying, "When we share news or media with you, it will be because we are ready to present it, maintaining our commitment to quality amidst all pressures."

Choi encouraged players to revisit the base game, as it contains numerous hints about what Overture might hold. He also acknowledged the fan theories circulating online, noting that some are surprisingly accurate.
