Denuvo DRM, known for its anti-tamper technology, has long been a source of controversy due to its impact on game performance. Despite its intentions to deter piracy, the inclusion of such software often leads to frustration among legitimate players.

In a recent Steam blog post published on March 26, inZOI Director Hyungjun ‘Kjun’ Kim acknowledged these concerns and revealed that the Early Access version, scheduled for release on March 28, 2025, will no longer feature DRM. “Initially, we implemented Denuvo to safeguard the game against unauthorized distribution,” explained Kjun. “We thought this would promote fairness among buyers. However, upon reviewing player feedback, we recognized that this decision didn’t resonate with our audience.”

He further admitted that while removing DRM increases the risk of illegal distribution, it opens up greater opportunities for customization. By prioritizing player freedom from the outset, the studio aims to inspire innovation and enduring enjoyment within the community.

A Focus on Modding

Players were particularly disheartened by the inclusion of Denuvo, as it complicates efforts to integrate mods and other personalizations into the game. Recognizing this, Kjun underscored the studio’s dedication to creating a highly moddable experience.

“Modding lies at the heart of what we want inZOI to represent,” Kjun affirmed. “Our initial modding tools will roll out in May, empowering creators to leverage programs like Maya and Blender to craft bespoke content. This is merely the beginning—we intend to broaden mod support across additional aspects of the game over time.”

Further details regarding modding will be shared in an upcoming dedicated post. Krafton remains steadfast in its commitment to putting players first, actively listening to feedback and refining the game accordingly.
