ASTRA: Knights of Veda Removing English Dubbing After Maintenance
Improving Game Stability and Localizations
Developer FLINT will remove English dubbing support from ASTRA: Knights of Veda on January 23, 2025. This change, announced January 20th, aims to improve localization quality and game stability. The January 23rd maintenance will also remove support for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian. Korean, English text, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian language support will remain.
While English text remains, in-game English voiceovers will be removed. After maintenance, regions outside Korea will default to Japanese voiceovers. This change won't affect players' ability to chat in any of the removed languages. FLINT assures players they are committed to providing better service and experiences.
Other Gacha Games That Removed English Voiceovers
ASTRA: Knights of Veda isn't the first gacha game to remove English voiceovers. Others, including Square Enix's War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Yostar Games' Aether Gazer, and Amazing Seasun Games' Snowbreak: Containment Zone, have also made similar changes.
War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius removed English voiceovers for new content starting in May 2024 (Main Story Part 3, Chapter 8, and Another Story Chapter 3, Scene 7 onward), shifting to Japanese. Existing content retained English dubbing.
Aether Gazer removed all English voiceovers in February 2024 after the "Crepuscular Cloudsong" update, citing financial difficulties and a need to reallocate resources.
Snowbreak: Containment Zone removed English voiceovers in December 2023 (Version 1.4), citing an evaluation of voice-over preferences and a focus on optimal gameplay experience. New content switched to Japanese voiceovers.
These decisions highlight a common trend: prioritizing either player language preference or efficient resource allocation. Focusing on the most popular language is logical, and the long-term cost of maintaining English voice acting for ongoing gacha content is substantial. Reallocating resources ensures the game's continued development and improvement.
