Sony and Firewalk Studios have unveiled the post-launch roadmap for their upcoming hero shooter, Concord, launching August 23rd on PS5 and PC. The game will forgo a traditional battle pass system, focusing instead on rewarding players through gameplay progression and completing in-game objectives.
A Content-Rich Roadmap
The developers emphasize Concord's launch as merely the beginning, promising a continuous stream of updates. Season 1: The Tempest, arriving in October, will introduce a new playable character (a Freegunner), a fresh map, additional character variants, and new cosmetic rewards. Weekly cinematic vignettes will enrich the game's narrative, expanding upon the Northstar crew's story. An in-game store, launching alongside Season 1, will offer purely cosmetic items, ensuring a fair and balanced gameplay experience. Season 2 is already planned for January 2025, demonstrating a commitment to long-term content support.
Strategic Team Building: The Crew Builder System
Game director Ryan Ellis highlighted the game's unique "Crew Builder" system, emphasizing strategic team composition. Players build custom crews of five Freegunners, with the option to include up to three copies of any character variant. This allows for fine-tuning team strategies based on playstyle and map challenges. Instead of traditional roles like Tank or Support, Concord's Freegunners are designed for high damage output. Six distinct roles—Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden—offer diverse tactical options, encouraging varied team compositions to unlock unique crew bonuses. These bonuses provide advantages such as enhanced mobility, reduced weapon recoil, and faster cooldown times.
In short, Concord promises a robust and rewarding experience, prioritizing continuous content updates and strategic gameplay over traditional monetization models. The absence of a battle pass, combined with a unique team-building system and a commitment to regular seasonal content, positions Concord as a compelling contender in the hero shooter genre.
