Remedy Entertainment has unveiled Control: Resonant, the next chapter in the award-winning world of Control, following its 2019 IGN Game of the Year title, at The Game Awards 2025. Slated for release in 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, the game promises to break away from conventional sequel tropes.
For the first time, you won’t step into Jesse Faden’s shoes. Seven years have passed since the events of the original, and now you’ll play as her younger brother, Dylan. Taken by the Federal Bureau of Control at age ten, he fell into a coma after being infected by The Hiss. And now, The Hiss has escaped The Oldest House—spreading across Manhattan, twisting streets, buildings, and reality itself into a surreal, otherworldly landscape, as glimpsed in the trailer.
But Dylan and the new setting aren’t the only changes. The combat system has been completely reimagined. Gone is Jesse’s versatile Service Weapon. In its place, Dylan wields the Aberrant—a raw, shape-shifting melee weapon enhanced by his own supernatural powers. At first glance, it evokes the lightsaber-and-Force synergy seen in Respawn’s Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor titles. When I asked Remedy about the combat’s feel, creative director Mikael Kasurinen explained: “Our combat is distinctly Control—push-forward, fast, and proactive. You master the blend of weapon strikes and supernatural abilities, chasing down enemies with precision. Dylan is agile and light on his feet; movement is central to every fight.”
“Preparation matters deeply,” he added. “Building a loadout that resonates with your playstyle is key. A huge part of the experience lies in tactical decision-making: how to fuse shifting melee attacks with supernatural powers while moving.”
“There’s depth in how you shape your character, with multiple progression systems designed to make you more adaptable and powerful.”
You’ll be able to customize your builds, tackle side missions, and navigate rival factions. Enemies will wield paranormal abilities and match your speed across the environment.
Remedy assures players that prior knowledge of the first Control isn’t required to follow this story—calling the two games siblings, not direct sequels.
“This is not a safe sequel,” Kasurinen emphasized.
