Developer Announces Major Tweaks to REPO's Overcharge and Difficulty Scaling

By AlexanderMay 17,2025

REPO, the eagerly anticipated game from developer Semiwork, is set to undergo significant updates in its difficulty scaling and Overcharge mechanic. These changes, informed by valuable feedback from the game's recent open beta, aim to enhance gameplay and deepen the game's lore. Let's dive into what's coming up in REPO's next update.

REPO Development Updates

Overcharge Overhaul

During the open beta, Semiwork received crucial feedback on the Overcharge mechanic, a feature that allows players to counter enemies by picking them up and throwing them onto hard surfaces or away from their team. However, this action is regulated by an overcharge meter; if it fills up, the player will explode. Initially available from the start, the developers have decided to introduce Overcharge at level 10, making it the first of several difficulty-increasing mechanics to be added every 10 levels (at levels 20, 30, and beyond).

These new mechanics will not only ramp up the challenge but also enrich the game's lore. As Semiwork's team stated, "So this system will be also tied to lore. It won’t be just a gimmick for no reason. There will be something attached to this and we will share more details in the future."

In a unique approach to gather player feedback, Semiwork developers, including Pontus Sundstrom, joined random matches during the open beta. Sundstrom shared his experience, saying, "And I've also actually played with a lot of you guys - incognito, in secret, through the random matchmaking in the servers." He further added, "And I've been asking some questions and finding out what you guys find fun, stuff like that."

This direct interaction with the community has been instrumental in shaping REPO's future updates. Semiwork is committed to using this feedback to continue improving the game, promising more exciting developments soon.
