Hideo Kojima Rules Out Story DLC for Death Stranding 2
Prioritizing Quality-of-Life Enhancements Instead
Hideo Kojima has emphasized that he would rather concentrate on quality-of-life improvements for Death Stranding 2 than develop story-based downloadable content. He believes a game's narrative should remain intact, reflecting the era in which it was created.
"Some elements are best left unchanged. The story, for instance, belongs to a specific time and context," Kojima explained in an interview with IndieWire. "George Lucas adapted Star Wars with full CGI because it fit a new era, but I don't wish to modify anything that would disrupt the original release's historical context."
Kojima aims to prevent an endless cycle of updates by avoiding story DLC, choosing instead to refine the core gameplay experience. He previously revealed that he rewrote Death Stranding 2's storyline for being too conventional, and only the first half of the final script matches his initial draft.
He expressed greater interest in gameplay tweaks, such as improving item accessibility or enhancing the user interface. Kojima now analyzes player statistics, in-game routes, and even cutscene viewing durations to identify areas for improvement.
