Hopetown Unveiled: Disco Elysium's Spiritual Successor

By NatalieMay 14,2025

Hopetown, a nonlinear RPG crafted by Longdue Games, presents a novel approach to narrative-driven gameplay. The studio, established by former employees of ZA/UM, Rockstar Games, and Bungie, has unveiled its first glimpse into the game's mechanics, positioning it as a spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed Disco Elysium. The storyline revolves around a journalist who wakes up in a mining town following a night of heavy drinking. With a pounding hangover, players must reconstruct the events of the previous night and navigate an escalating local conflict, deciding whether to soothe tensions or stoke the flames.

Screenshots showcase a dialogue-rich experience where player choices significantly influence the narrative trajectory. The game features multiple archetypes, each providing distinct dialogue options and interaction styles. For instance, when engaging with an elderly woman feeding pigeons, players can choose different tones, leading to varied outcomes in the conversation.

Longdue Games is gearing up to launch a Kickstarter campaign to finance the project, with an active page already present on the platform. Although a specific release date remains undisclosed, excitement is mounting among enthusiasts of narrative-focused RPGs.

Hopetown is not the only game inspired by Disco Elysium. Two other studios, Dark Math Games and Summer Eternal, are also developing their own psychological RPGs, adding to the growing interest in this genre.
