Elden Ring Nightreign: No In-Game Messaging System

FromSoftware has confirmed that Elden Ring Nightreign will not feature an in-game messaging system, a staple of the Soulsborne series. This decision, according to game director Junya Ishizaki, is purely practical. The fast-paced, multiplayer-focused design of Nightreign, with anticipated play sessions around 40 minutes long, leaves insufficient time for players to engage with the asynchronous messaging system.

While this core feature is absent, other asynchronous elements will return and be enhanced. The bloodstain mechanic, for example, will be improved, allowing players to observe and even loot the ghosts of fallen players. This aligns with FromSoftware's goal of creating a "compressed RPG" experience with high intensity and minimal downtime, a vision reflected in the game's planned three-day structure.

The omission of the messaging system is intended to streamline gameplay and maintain the game's rapid pace. The lack of lengthy pauses for reading and writing messages contributes to the overall more intense and focused multiplayer experience.

Elden Ring Nightreign is slated for a 2025 release, though a precise date remains unannounced. The game's reveal trailer at TGA 2024 generated significant excitement.
