FF7 Rebirth Director Discusses Game Updates
No New Content Planned for PC Version Yet

In a December 13 interview on the Epic Games blog, FF7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed that the team considered adding a DLC with an episodic story for the PC version but prioritized completing the trilogy’s final chapter due to resource constraints.
Although the team was eager to include new content, Hamaguchi emphasized that finishing the final game is their top focus. “We wanted to add an episodic story as DLC for the PC version,” he said, “but our highest priority is completing the trilogy.”
While no DLC is currently planned, Hamaguchi remains open to fan feedback. “If players strongly request specific content post-release, we’ll consider it,” he noted, suggesting that significant community demand could lead to new additions for the PC version.
Appeal to the Modding Community

In the same interview, Hamaguchi addressed the modding community. Although FF7 Rebirth lacks official mod support, its PC release is expected to draw modders who can enhance or alter game assets.
When asked about mod-friendliness compared to the 2012 remaster, Hamaguchi said, “We value the modding community’s creativity and encourage their work, but we urge modders to avoid creating or using offensive or inappropriate content.”

Mods often enhance games by introducing new features, improved textures, or entirely new experiences, like Counter-Strike, which began as a mod for Half-Life. However, Hamaguchi’s call for respectful modding reflects concerns about potentially offensive modifications.
Enhancements in FF7 Rebirth PC Version

The PC version of FF7 Rebirth, set for release on January 23, 2025, via Steam and Epic Games Store, introduces upgraded graphics, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions to improve the gaming experience.
Addressing feedback from the original release, the team refined lighting rendering, which previously caused an “uncanny valley” effect on character faces. For high-end PCs, the game offers superior 3D models and textures beyond the PS5’s capabilities.

Hamaguchi noted that adapting mini-games for PC was particularly challenging. “Configuring unique key settings for numerous mini-games required significant effort,” he explained.
FF7 Rebirth, the second chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, launched on PS5 on February 9, 2024, earning widespread praise from critics and fans.
