Hamaguchi confirmed that development is progressing smoothly without any delays. "We started working on the third title immediately after concluding FF7 Rebirth's development," he stated. "We are on track with our planned schedule, and we hope fans are as excited as we are for its release."
Kitase added that the main scenario for Part 3 was completed well before the PlayStation 5 release of FF7 Rebirth in February 2024. "We've been polishing it since then, and I'm now satisfied with the final product," he said. He entrusted the storywriting to Tetsuya Nomura, the creative director of FF7 Rebirth, with the goal of creating a satisfying conclusion that respects the original while adding new elements. "The scenario was finalized by the end of last year, and I believe it will meet fans' expectations for a fulfilling end to the trilogy."
Team Admits That They Were Worried About Rebirth's Release At First
Following the success of the first installment, the release of *Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth* in early 2024 was met with widespread acclaim. Despite this, Kitase and Hamaguchi admitted to initial concerns about how players would react to the second game in the trilogy. "Being a remake and the second part, I was worried about its reception," Kitase shared. "However, the overwhelmingly positive reviews we received have not only alleviated those worries but have also boosted our confidence for the final installment."
Hamaguchi attributed the game's success to its compelling storyline and engaging gameplay, emphasizing his "logic-based approach" to development. In an interview with Automaton, he explained the team's method for incorporating player feedback: "If our goal is A, and someone suggests B instead, we can’t accommodate it as it's a preference. But if someone suggests adding B to enhance A, we'll consider it if feasible."
PC Gaming Is Now The Norm
The duo also discussed the growing trend of PC gaming. Kitase noted that the industry has shifted towards PC releases due to increasing development costs and the global accessibility of PCs. "PCs have no borders, making them ideal for reaching a wider audience," he said. This trend prompted the team to expedite the PC port of FF7 Rebirth, as Hamaguchi explained: "We've noticed a significant shift in gaming habits towards PCs, which is why we focused on bringing FF7 Rebirth to PC sooner than we did with FF7 Remake."
With insights gained from the first two releases, anticipation for the grand finale of the *Final Fantasy 7 Remake* trilogy is high. Fans can look forward to potentially experiencing the conclusion on PC even sooner than expected, ensuring the full Remake Project experience reaches a global audience.
*Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth* is now available on PC via Steam and PlayStation 5. For those yet to embark on this epic journey, *Final Fantasy 7 Remake* is accessible on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam.
