Capcom Tames Monster Hunter Wilds PC Requirements

By CalebApr 03,2025

As the release date of Monster Hunter Wilds on February 28 approaches, developer Capcom has announced efforts to lower the game's recommended GPU requirements. This news was shared by the official German Monster Hunter X/Twitter account, which also disclosed that Capcom is considering the development of a standalone PC benchmarking tool to help players assess their system's compatibility.

Currently, Capcom recommends an Nvidia GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT for achieving 30 FPS at 1080p. This minimum setup involves rendering the game at an internal resolution of 720p and using upscaling technologies such as DLSS or FSR on the lowest graphics settings. For a smoother 60 FPS experience at 1080p, Capcom suggests using an RTX 2070 Super, RTX 4060, or AMD RX 6700 XT, with upscaling and Frame Generation technologies enabled. Notably, only the RTX 4060 supports Nvidia Frame Generation, while the RTX 2070 Super and RX 6700 XT rely on FSR 3, which encountered ghosting artifacts during the previous Monster Hunter Wilds beta.

Experts at Digital Foundry have advised that targeting 60 FPS with Frame Generation might not be optimal, recommending a baseline of 40 FPS for third-person games to ensure a responsive and tactile experience. Running the game below 60 FPS with upscaling can introduce noticeable latency, potentially impacting gameplay feel.

During the open beta test of Monster Hunter Wilds, players with lower-end hardware, including those with mid-range cards like the RTX 3060, faced difficulties. A prevalent issue was a low-LOD bug that prevented the full detail of character and monster textures from loading.

Monster Hunter Wilds utilizes the RE Engine, which was first introduced with Resident Evil 7 in 2017. This engine has powered titles such as Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter Rise, and Street Fighter 6, generally delivering solid performance across various platforms. However, its application in larger open-world games like Dragon’s Dogma 2 has shown performance challenges on both consoles and PCs, raising concerns for Monster Hunter Wilds. With an open beta scheduled for early February and a full release at the end of the month, Capcom's initiative to adjust GPU requirements could be crucial for ensuring the game's success on the PC platform.
